Our History

Debenhams Ottaway has grown organically and as a result of assimilations and mergers over the recent past.

The most recent merger took place in September 2008 between Turner and Debenhams and Ottaways.

Prior to merger both firms were individually significant and had equally long and proud traditions in South Hertfordshire dating back, in parts, to the 1700’s.

During the 5 years prior to merger Turner and Debenhams had seen significant organic growth, doubling its turnover.

Since merger Debenhams Ottaway has become the largest law firm in St Albans and one of the largest and most capable in Hertfordshire.

The latest additions to the firm are David Cheetham and Andrew Stovin both formerly Partners in Claytons solicitors, who joined us in August 2011 as Consultants.

We are now concentrated on two sites, St Albans and Radlett, where our 15 Partners and 85 staff are based.

Our lawyers are organised by way of specialist legal sector based teams in order to ensure that our clients receive the best possible legal advice and support.

We use the most up to date practices such as case management systems, digital dictation and storage, email and web access to ensure that we can work with our clients where they reside.

Whilst fiercely proud of our roots and heritage we are a thoroughly modern law firm. We have recently won the CSR Award from our local Chamber of Commerce and we are currently shortlisted for the Best Medium Sized Business Award by the regional Chambers of Commerce.
