DO supports the Dragon's Apprentice Charity Challenge

The Dragon’s Apprentice charity challenge 2011 was officially launched on 22nd September. The Challenge is organised by the St Albans Centre for Voluntary Service. This is the second year that the challenge has been run. Last year 3 teams took part and raised £2,445 for Home-Start, Herts Young Homeless Group and St Albans Volunteer Centre.

This year 12 teams of 6th form students from schools and colleges in St Albans and Harpenden have entered the Challenge. The competition will test the teams’ business skills as they attempt to turn £100 into £1,000 for local charities. The teams may raise money in any way they choose as long as they prepare a clear plan stating their business ideas and how they aim to reach their target.

All profits will go directly to the school’s chosen charity. Each team will be supported by a business mentor who will provide expert advice and resources. Luke Harrison of Debenhams Ottaway solicitors will be mentoring the STAGS team who are raising money for Home-Start.

The challenge culminates at an awards night at the University of Hertfordshire in March 2011 when the schools will present their results to a panel of judges. The winning teams will get the offer of work experience at the University of Hertfordshire and BAM Construct.
