On October 21st, Kings Langley Cricket Club held their annual Colts' awards. This year, the club was celebrating, arguably, its most successful Colts' season ever. The Colts' section of the Club is sponsored by Debenhams Ottaway solicitors.
The u9’s ,10’s, 14’s and u15’s all won their respective Herts League divisions with most boasting 100% records. The u10 and 14’s only lost out in County final play offs whereas the u15’s went on to be crowned County champions. The u15’s also won the local 20/20 competition for the 2nd year out of the last 3.
The awards evening was also used as an opportunity to thank the colts for their dedication to training, as well as the coaches who give up their time to run the teams.
In addition to the awards for each age group, the clubs has five separate overall prizes up for grabs.
The Bill Townley Award for promising young cricketer was a new award for this season, named in memory of Bill who died two years ago, aged 92. He and his family played at Kings Langley for many years and were active social members of the club. Mrs Townley presented the award to the inaugural winner, David Burnell.
The Peter Griffiths Award for overall best colt was presented to Ben Joyce by Nick Turner of Debenhams Ottaway Solicitors.
The Paul Tinworth Award for most improved colt went to George Calcutt while the Reg Gray Award for teamwork went to Daniel Thompson.
As Tony Burnell, the chairman of the Club, said to the assembled crowd at the presentation ceremony "KLCC is very grateful to Debenhams Ottaway for their continued and valued sponsorship of the young community in Kings Langley through the Colts' Section of the Club". In reply, Nick Turner explained that Debenhams Ottaway had a huge pride in more than 200 years of its own history and through that a great deal of confidence in its own future.
This mirrored the history of the Club which had been established for almost as long and he explained that his confidence in the future of the club lay with the Colts' section. He commented that it was wonderful for Debenhams Ottaway to be associated with so much success at the Club and how very very pleased he was to see personally how the additional equipment and facilities which have been enabled by the sponsorship were being put to such rich reward for the benefit of the Club and the community.
