Ian Hopkins

Chief Executive

Ian is the Chief Executive of Debenhams Ottaway.

As such, he is responsible for the performance and development of the firm’s business, leading the firm’s Practice Support Group and for driving the firm forward towards its strategic goals.

Ian is also the Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration, Compliance Officer for Legal Practice, and the firm’s risk manager, and as such responsible for Debenhams Ottaway meeting all regulatory requirements.

Skills & Expertise

Ian is a non practising solicitor with over 14 years experience in law firm management, gained at three regional law firms.

In addition to his legal qualification he has a Masters Degree in Business Administration, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Ian is particularly interested in leadership, strategy and organisational development, and has undertaken a number of strategy reviews during his career.

In 2003 whilst Managing Partner at Leo Abse and Cohen Ian guided the firm to become the Law Firm of the Year at the Western Mail national newspaper of the year business awards.

In 2005 he was recognised by the Leading Wales Consortium, when he won the leadership for businesses with less than 250 employees category at the inaugural Leading Wales Business Awards.

Background & Qualifications

Ian studied law at Kingston Polytechnic, and subsequently at Chester College of Law for the Solicitors’ Finals Examinations.

In 2000 he gained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Glamorgan.

Ian joined Debenhams Ottaway in 2010, as Chief Executive. Prior to this he was Managing Director at Warners LLP in Kent, and for 10 years Managing Partner at Leo Abse and Cohen in South Wales
