Court of Protection Manager

Tammie works in the Private Client team dealing with Court of Protection matters and in particular Deputyship applications.

She is responsible for Deputyship applications where the firm is to be appointed as Professional Deputy for an individual who has lost capacity and has no-one else to manage their financial affairs.  Where the firm has been appointed Professional Deputy, Tammie is responsible for the day to day running of these deputyships.

She also assists clients who wish to be appointed Deputy for a family member who has lost capacity.

Tammie has a reputation for being patient, kind and understanding when dealing with elderly clients.

Skills & Expertise

Tammie works closely with Social Services, the Local Authority and local care homes with whom she has built up good working relationships over the years.

She places great importance on her ability to deal with a varying degree of complexity with Deputyship applications and these professionals regularly contact her for advice and assistance when they need to make a Deputyship application to the Court.

When dealing with applications to the OPG, for families to be appointed Deputy for a family member, she ensures the family understand each stage of the process and advises them as to how to conduct the matter once the Court Order is received.

Tammie completes Annual Accounts for the Office of the Public Guardian and Tax Returns for HMRC on behalf of her Professional Deputy clients.

She also deals with the registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney at the Office of the Public Guardian.

Background & Qualifications

Tammie is St. Albans ‘born and bred’ and has been with the firm for over 20 years. She initially joined Murgatroyds in 1989 as an office junior and when the firm merged with Ottaways in 1990 she became a secretary in the fields of Court of Protection and Care for the Elderly.

Tammie now manages Court of Protection and Caring for the Elderly Cases within Debenhams Ottaway.
